Sending to Nigeria

USD Cash Pickups now available!

Due to the Central Bank of Nigeria's mandate on November 30th, 2020 that all remittances must be paid out in USD, we have had to make some changes to how you're able to send money to Nigeria through Sendwave.

While sending to Naira accounts is no longer possible, you can still send to your loved ones affordably, securely, and quickly via USD cash pickup!

Your recipients will be able to pick up their cash at any Access or Zenith Bank branch. All they need is the voucher code we send them, their BVN, a valid form of identification, and their mobile phone.

How it works

For Senders

  1. Upgrade your app - Visit the Apple App Store or Google Play Store and download the latest version of Sendwave.
  2. Add a new Nigerian recipient - Make sure you select 'Cash  Pickup' and that you enter your recipient's legal name and correct mobile phone number. They'll need to show official identification so be sure the name matches. We'll communicate with them via SMS so be sure their number is correct!
  3. Enter the amount you want to send or your recipient to receive - Click Send! This part has not changed.
  4. Confirm your transaction - Review the details, then enter your password to confirm the transaction.
  5. Let your recipient know that funds are on their way - As soon as you confirm the transaction, we'll send your recipient an SMS with the voucher code. They'll need to take this code to any Access or Zenith Bank branch to pickup the cash.
  6. If you need help, we're here for you - Call us 24/7 at:

For Recipients:

  1. Receive SMS from Sendwave - The SMS will contain a unique voucher code.
  2. Go to any Access or Zenith Bank branch - You can find a list of all the Access branches here. You can find the nearest Zenith branch here. Make sure you take your mobile phone (the one where you received the voucher code) with you.
  3. Give the teller the voucher code - You'll need to verify your identity.
At Access Bank, acceptable forms of IDs are: International Passport (Nigerian or other); Driver’s License; National Id. Card; INEC Registration Card; or Bank Verification Number (BVN).
At Zenith Bank, recipients will need their BVN as well as either a International Passport (Nigerian or other); Driver’s License; National Id. Card; or PVC.
  4. Receive SMS code and give to teller - To enhance the security of the transaction, once the teller initiates the transaction, we'll send you a short code to confirm it's really you. Please give this code to the teller.
  5. Collect your funds - That's it! Let your sender know you've picked up the funds :)

Just like we did when sending to Naira accounts, security is a top priority for Sendwave. We’ve added two steps to help ensure the security of your transfer, on top of our existing security. When you send a cash pickup, you and your recipient will receive a unique code for the transaction.
