have to say about using Sendwave

I use Sendwave to pay school fees for my NGO in Africa. It used to be such a hassle to do, calling and driving around... The Sendwave app is such a blessing as we can now lay down in our beds and send money to Nigeria. Thank you, Sendwave!

Send to Nigeria via Domiciliary Accounts or USD Cash Pickup!

Due to the Central Bank of Nigeria's mandate on November 30th 2020 that all remittances must be paid out in USD, we have had to make some changes to how you're able to send money to Nigeria through Sendwave.

While sending to Naira accounts is no longer possible, you can still send to your loved ones affordably, securely, and quickly via USD cash pickup or directly to their domiciliary accounts!

Your recipients will be able to pick up their cash at any Access, Fidelity, Zenith or GTB Bank. All they need is the voucher code we send them, their BVN, a valid form of identification, and their mobile phone. No need to have an account with any of the banks to collect funds :)

You can send to domiciliary accounts at Access, GTB, UBA, and First Bank. The funds will be directly deposited into their account.

How it works

Sending via USD Cash Pickup

For Senders:

  1. Upgrade your app - Visit the Apple App Store or Google Play Store and download the latest version of Sendwave.
  2. Add a new Nigerian recipient - Make sure you select 'Cash  Pickup' and that you enter your recipient's legal name and correct mobile phone number. They'll need to show official identification so be sure the name matches. We'll communicate with them via SMS so be sure their number is correct!
  3. Enter the amount you want to send or your recipient to receive - Click Send! This part has not changed.
  4. Confirm your transaction - Review the details, then enter your password to confirm the transaction.
  5. Let your recipient know that funds are on their way - As soon as you confirm the transaction, we'll send you and your recipient two SMS. One with the voucher code, the other with a one time password for the transaction. They'll need to take both these codes to any Access, Zenith, Fidelity or GTB Bank to pickup the cash. They do not need to have an account with any of the banks to collect funds.
  6. If you need help, we're here for you - Call us 24/7 at:

For Recipients:

  1. Receive two SMS from Sendwave - The first SMS will contain a unique voucher code. The second SMS will contain a one time password for the transfer.
  2. Go to any Access, Zenith, or Fidelity Bank - You can find a list of all the Access branches here, the nearest Zenith branches here, the nearest Fidelity branches here, and the nearest GTB branches here. Make sure you take your mobile phone (the one where you received the two codes) with you. You do not need to have an account with any of the banks to collect funds.
  3. Give the teller the voucher code & password - You'll need to verify your identity.
At Access Bank, acceptable forms of IDs are: International Passport (Nigerian or other); Driver’s License; National ID. Card; INEC Registration Card; or Bank Verification Number (BVN).
At Zenith Bank, recipients will need their BVN as well as either an International Passport (Nigerian or other); Driver’s License; National ID Card; or PVC.
At Fidelity Bank, recipients will need their BVN, National ID, Driver's License with a photo, or INEC Permanent Voter's Card with address.
At GTB, recipients will need their BVN as well as their International Passport, Driver's License, or National ID Card.
  4. Collect your funds - That's it! Let your sender know you've picked up the funds :)

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Why can't I select USD Bank Account when I try to add a new recipient?
To send to domiciliary accounts, please make sure your app is updated to version 04.07.02. You can update your app directly from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store. If you’re not sure what version of the app you have, you can check your app version on the bottom of the 'Me' page.

  2. What is the fee to send to Nigeria?
For users in the United States sending USD to USD, the fee will be 1%. This is for transfers to domiciliary accounts or for USD cash pickup. For users sending from Europe, the United Kingdom or Canada, there will be no fee to send to USD :)
  3. How secure is sending via USD cash pickup?
Just like when sending to Naira accounts, security is a top priority for Sendwave. We’ve added two ways to help ensure the security of your transfer, on top of our existing security. When you send a transfer, you and your recipient will receive a unique code for the transaction. You both will also receive a one time password for the transaction. Your recipient will need to take those codes to any Access, Zenith, or Fidelity Bank branch and present it to the bank teller. Once the bank teller verifies their identity, they'll be able to collect the funds.
  4. How long will it take for Cash Pickup funds to arrive ?
The unique code voucher and one time password will be sent to your recipient within moments of you initiating the transfer. They will then need to visit any Access, Zenith, or Fidelity Bank branch between Monday through Friday 8 am - 4 pm WAT to collect the funds. The funds do need to be picked up within a 7 days a of the transfer being sent.
  5. What information do I need to send to a recipient for USD cash pickup?
To send via USD cash pickup you just need your recipients full name and their phone number - it’s that simple :)

  6. Where can my recipient collect the funds?
The funds can be picked up at any Access, Zenith, Fidelity or GTB Bank branch. The nearest branches can be found here:
    Access Bank
    Zenith Bank
    Fidelity Bank
    GTB Bank

  7. What forms of ID are acceptable for picking up funds?
Generally recipients need to bring their BVN and an additional ID with them to verify their identity. The form of additional ID can vary by bank.
To collect funds from Access Bank, they can present: international passport, driver’s license, national ID card, INEC registration card, or Bank Verification Number (BVN).

  9. How long does my recipient have to collect the funds?
The funds need to be picked up within 7 days of the transfer being sent.  After 7 days the transaction will be cancelled and your debit card will not be charged.

  10. Can I send to domiciliary accounts?
Yes! You can now send to domiciliary accounts at GTB, UBA, Access Bank, and First Bank. More banks coming soon as well!

  11. Can I still send to Naira accounts?
Unfortunately, no, for now we are unable to send to Naira accounts. This is due to a directive from the Central Bank of Nigeria on Nov 30th that required all remittances to be paid out in USD and is beyond Sendwave’s control. We hope that at some point in the future, we will again by able to send to Naira accounts. However, at this time we do not know when or if it will be possible.
  1. How long does it take for an auto-generated domiciliary account to be created?
New domiciliary accounts should be created within 24 hours of the transfer being initiated. Setting up the accounts is done solely be recipient banks, so please ensure your recipients direct any questions about their accounts to their bank :)

You can currently send to domiciliary accounts at Access Bank, GTB, UBA, and First Bank. We are working hard to add more banks soon!
